| About Swiss Geological Society | |||||||
The Swiss Geological Society (SGS), was established in 1882 as a National Executive Committee. The society is a member of the Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT). The society promotes the advancement of earth sciences by organizing meetings supported by SCNAT, and by annual reunions of special interest groups. Symposia and thematic excursions are organized on regular basis, commonly in collaboration with other societies. The SGS especially welcomes young scientists and supports theirs attendance of its meetings. The following societies and groups (see Affiliated societies and groups) are affiliated to our society: Swiss Palaeontological Society, Swiss Tectonic Studies Group, SwissSed, Swiss Group of Geophysicists. The SGS publishes, together with the affiliated societies and groups, the journal Swiss Journal of Geosciences, which the members receive free of charge. Moreover, the SGS supports the European Journal for the Geosciences «Terra Nova». |
